You can learn most of what matters about a practice, dental or veterinary, in one phone call, before you ever book. Here’s the script, and what the answers mean.
1. “Who owns the practice?”
The single most revealing question. Independent offices answer instantly and usually warmly. Corporate-owned offices often hesitate, redirect, or answer with the local doctor’s name while omitting the parent company.
2. “Will I see the same doctor each visit?”
Continuity is where good care lives. High associate turnover is a hallmark of corporate ownership; a practice that can promise you the same doctor is telling you something about how it’s run.
3. “Who decides my treatment plan?”
The right answer is a doctor’s name. Watch for mentions of “our protocols” or “the clinical team” that can’t be attached to a person in the room with you.
4. “How long is a typical appointment?”
Production-target practices compress schedules. If a routine visit is booked in a window that barely covers the paperwork, the math is being done somewhere other than your chart.
5. “How long has the doctor been here?”
Years of tenure, of the owner and the associates, is the quiet signal that the practice is a place people stay. Every CorpFree listing shows years independent, on the record.
